TCC funded project: AROPCQA – Augmented Reality for Operative Productivity & Continuous Quality Analysis
Creating a common platform to enable the use of augmented reality and other worker enhancements for a user-focused, practical system to improve construction processes. The use of AR in manufacturing suggest a productivity increase of up to 34%. Rework is a source of cost over-run but also 6-15% of this directly translate to waste. Previous design optimisation led to 25% materials savings and 20% carbon reductions

TCC funded project: Automating Concrete Construction - ACORN
Currently up to half of the concrete used in buildings is unnecessary and is only there because it is shaped using planar formwork. By moving the construction of concrete buildings off-site and using robotics to allow beams, columns and floor-slabs to have the shape they need to do their job, rather than the shape they need to be easily formed, ACORN allows a complete rethink of the way material is used in our buildings

TCC funded project: Digital design of building structures for optimised cost and carbon performance
Making it easy for engineers to reduce embodied carbon in new buildings and keep costs low. The calculator automatically assesses the embodied carbon in each of the materials being considered and weighs-up the respective carbon and cost-saving that each material represents. What Government support and resources are available?

Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre for Mineral-based Construction Materials
Funded by UKRI and led by University College London, this centre aims to develop systems for more efficient use and recovery of mineral resources. This will reduce UK construction minerals extraction by more than half a million tonnes per day, and reduce the generation of 154 million tonnes of mineral waste each year.
