In this inquiry, the Economy, Energy and Fair Work Committee sought to understand the characteristics and challenges of Scotland’s construction sector. If the sector is to realise its full potential contribution to a productive and inclusive economy, it must address these challenges and build for the future. In Scotland, the construction sector employs 147,000 people who are represented by over 120 trade bodies and professional organisations. It is a sector characterised by its diversity of industries and outputs, which has contributed to the longstanding challenges outlined in this report. This was a wide-ranging inquiry and the Committee’s specific areas of focus were: economic impact, access to finance, skills, procurement, infrastructure investment, land asset management and innovation
