The Construction Leadership Council is encouraging businesses to remind their employees that the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS) closes on 30 June 2021, to help ensure continuity in workforce planning.
European nationals (EU, EEA and Swiss citizens) who arrived in the UK before the 31 December 2020 may apply for settled status in the UK and must do so if they wish to continue enjoying the same rights as were enjoyed when the UK was a part of the European Union. Irish citizens do not need to apply, as their rights will continue to be protected as part of the reciprocal agreements between Britain and Ireland under the Common Travel Area (CTA).
The scheme is free to apply to but applications must be made by 30 June 2021. The Construction Leadership Council produced guidance on the movement of people last year, which includes the relevant links for the employers’ toolkit to the European Union Settlement Scheme on the dos and don’ts of communicating with employees about the scheme, as well as helpful resources like template letters and posters.
