Green Construction Board issues new report on Buildings Energy Mission

The Green Construction Board’s recommendations and background report show how achieving the 2030 target to halve all new building  energy use over 2018 standards is achievable by tightening energy and systems efficiencies and moving to a culture of transparency on out-turn performance through the measurement of total energy in use.

The Board’s recommendations are based on evidence provided by a time-limited industry Taskgroup and are supported by the case studies and commentary in the Background Report.   They call for urgent and consistent action in regulation, market incentivisation and further research to achieve the 2030 target as soon as possible, and move beyond it to a built environment of net zero emissions.

The Taskgroup Chair acknowledges the need to upscale the lessons of their case studies through mass production of high performance fabric and systems, and the widespread deployment of diagnostics and sensors to aid our understanding of building performance and the achievement of lasting quality.
