DLUHC Launches Consultation on Operational Reforms to the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project Consenting Process

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has launched a consultation on operational reforms to the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) consenting process.

Following the publication of the NSIP Action Plan in February 2023, the Government has committed to bringing forward reforms to ensure the existing system can support our future infrastructure needs by making the NSIP consenting process better, faster, greener, fairer and more resilient by 2025.

The proposals fall broadly into 3 reform areas:

  1. Operational reform to support a faster consenting process
  2. Recognising the role of local communities and strengthening engagement
  3. System capability – building a more diverse and resilient resourcing model

This consultation closes at 11:59pm on 19 September 2023. More information can be found here.
