Remediation Acceleration Plan
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published an update to the remediation acceleration plan (originally published on 2 December 2024) outlining the progress that has been made and also introduces new measures to achieve the plan’s three obJectives:
• Fix buildings faster;
• Identify all 11m+ residential buildings with unsafe cladding; and
• Support residents.
The additional measures are:
• Changed the rules of the Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS) to give social landlords the same access to government remediation funding as private landlords, underpinned new investment of over £1 billion.
• Provide funding in those exceptional cases where multi-occupied residential buildings under 11 metres have life-critical fire safety risks from cladding and do not have an alternative route to funding.
• Deliver a long-term, sustainable approach to the Waking Watch Replacement Fund, with new funding committed to install alarm systems and help keep residents safely in their homes whilst their buildings await remediation.

The MHCLG press release can be found here. It cites the intention of the Government to bring forward a Remediation Bill, when parliamentary time allows to clarify responsibilities, introduce a legal duty to remediate and provide government with backstop powers to intervene where necessary.
