The Government has published the Industrial Strategy Construction Jobs Plan. It brings government and industry together to build the skilled workforce needed to deliver 1.5 million homes, invest £725 billion in infrastructure over 10 years and upgrade 5 million existing buildings. The Construction Skills Mission Board has set an ambition for industry to create 100,000 job opportunities a year by the end of this Parliament.
Government is providing an extra £625 million through the Construction Skills Package. This includes 40,000 industry placements each year for eligible Level 2 and Level 3 construction learners aged 16 and over, up to 10,000 new construction-focused Foundation Apprenticeships and 35,000 additional construction-focused Skills Bootcamp places.
Industry has agreed ten commitments to tackle the sector’s workforce and skills challenges. These include developing sector-specific skills plans, improving strategic workforce planning, strengthening good employment practices and exploring how AI and industrialised construction can improve productivity. Local and regional delivery will be at the heart of the plan.
